摘要： Werner Ernst Reichardt was born on January 30, 1924 in Berlin and at age 19 was drafted into the Luftwaffe and assigned to an electronic signals section laboratory. He became an active member of a resistance group and supplied radios for the movement in Germany. He emerged from the ashes of the Second World War and dedicated his scientific life to the development of the newborn specialty of biological physics. Following graduation from the Technische Hochschule Charlottenburg, he did a fellowship at CalTech under Max Delbruck. On returning to Germany he joined the Max Planck Institut and later became Director of the Max Planck Institut fur Biologische Kybernetik in Tubingen, West Germany. Reichardt was one of the founders of the quantitative study of visually controlled orientation in animals. His work is very nearly unique in its close dialectic between elegant non-linear mathematical theory and quantitative experimental test of their predictions. During the 1950s Reichardt and his collaborators jointly developed an autocorrelation model (i.e. the firing rate of the involved visual neurones is closely correlated with the features of the pattern stimulating them) of how moving patterns are perceived by motion detectors in the visual system of the fly. This was the first mathematical description of a biological abstraction process. His findings apply to vertebrate vision, including motion detection and figure-ground description in human vision. His Max Planck Institute became a world renowned center for the computational approach to information processing by the nervous system. At his retirement party from the Institute he founded, Reichardt died on the evening of September 11th, 1992.

摘要： A committee of experts, including physicians and psychologists, has drafted this response to the American Academy of Neurology and American Clinical Neurophysiology Society's (AAN/ACNS) paper "Assessment of Digital EEG, Quantitative EEG, and EEG Brain Mapping," edited by Dr. Marc Nuwer.(1) It is the opinion of this committee, supported by the leadership of the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB) and the Society for the Study of Neuronal Regulation (SSNR), that the AAN/ACNS report is biased and contains factual errors. This committee, as a body representing AAPB and SSNR, is concerned about the accuracy of the report, its scope, and the damage that it may cause in the health care and science fields. The AAN/ACNS conclusions, as they are currently written, should not be considered the definitive opinion on digital EEG.

摘要： Jackson and Marsh (1996) reported the development of a Flow State Scale (FSS) for use in sport and physical activity. The FSS contains 36 items measuring the nine dimensions of flow described by Csikszentmihalyi (1990, 1993). Jackson and Marsh reported high internal consistency estimates for the subscales and evidence for nine first-order factors and one second-order factor when confirmatory factor analytic techniques were used. The present study extended this validation work by subjecting the data from the original sample (N = 394) of elite younger athletes and a subsequent sample (N = 398) of older athletes to Rasch analysis. These Rasch analyses showed quite clearly that the flow dimensions may be conceptualised as a continuum with "autotelic experience" being experienced more readily than dimensions such as "transformation of time", a state that may only be encountered at the height of a deep flow experience. The Rasch analyses provide useful additional information about the areas of the flow continuum tapped by the items and scales of the FSS and, in so doing, help to confirm the construct validity and generalisability of the scale itself.

摘要： The aim was to determine a technique and parameters to test the otolith-autonomous reflex responses in conscious monkeys. The study involved 8 Macacas mulatta weighing 3 to 5 kg with subcutaneously pre-implanted electrodes to record ECG, rheopneumogram, and myoelectric activity of the stomach. The animals were seated in primate couches in which their bodies were softly restrained whereas their heads were restrained rigidly with plastic rings mounted on the cranium. Subsiding motion of a flat-parallel swing with the proper period of 3 s and starting amplitudes 20 cm (0.08 g) and 40 cm (0.16 g) exerted vestibular stimulation along the interaural axis. The monkeys responded to stimulation by altering the external breathing, myoelectric activity of the stomach, and cardiac rhythm. The highest reproducibility and individual steadiness featured cardiac reactions manifested by 2 waves of HR acceleration sequel to reflex-driven changes in the activity of the sympathetic and parasympathetic components of the autonomous nervous system. Data of the study attested the feasibility of testing the otolith-autonomous reflex responses in conscious monkeys with moderate stimulation in controlled experiments.
